Serdar Yilmaz (Izmit, 1973) graduated from Marmara University, Department
of Fine Arts, Painting Department in İstanbul (MA and PhD). Serdar Yılmaz has
many films that were screened at many national and international film festivals and
won awards. Similarly, his experimental film and video installations have reached
viewers at various international art galleries, solo and group exhibitions and
museums. (For example, “the Turkish Delight”, Rio Contemporary Art Museum,
Brazil). Yilmaz has worked as a production designer and art director on many feature
films and documentaries and won many awards. Some of his awards include; The
“Shadowless” (2009, the Golden Boll Film Festival, “the Best Art Director Award”),
“Waiting for Heaven” (2007, the Golden Boll Film Festival, Ankara Film Festival,
“the Best Art Director Award”). His short films “the Puddle” (2015) and “Fried
Chicken” (2013) have been screened at many international film festivals such as the
Rotterdam Film Festival (2013), the Cannes Film Festival (2012), the Brooklyn Film
Festival (2016-2012), and the Oaxaca Film Festival.
The following are the awards “The Puddle” won; “the Best Experimental Film
Award” from the Brooklyn Film Festival and the International İstanbul Film Festival,
“the Best Surreal Film” from the Sacramento Film Festival. Yılmaz has met coproducers and distributors from Europe by having been chosen among the first eight
projects by the Sarajevo Film Festival, Cinelink Project and Script Development
Platform with his first feature film project “3+1 Apartment for Sale”. He works as an
academic at Balikesir University, Fine Art Faculty.
