Abstract

Her görsel üretim, belirli kavramsal temalar çerçevesinde değerlendirilmiştir.

A critical review of theatre spaces designed with prompt-based generative models

Abstract

AI-based generative visualization tools, particularly systems like Google's Gemini submodel Whisk, are triggering fundamental transformations in visual production processes. This study critically explores how AI-assisted generative visualization technologies impact spatially grounded and multilayered artistic disciplines such as theatrical stage design. Using prompts developed for selected scenes from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, stage design images were generated with the Whisk model and analyzed through the lenses of visual semiotics (Roland Barthes), spatial theory (Henri Lefebvre), and digital aesthetics. The research adopts a qualitative analysis methodology, evaluating each visual output within specific conceptual frameworks. These visual readings contribute to understanding new aesthetic paradigms emerging in stage design processes through AI. The findings are discussed around key themes such as the nature of representation, stage-audience dynamics, and the democratization of creativity in production. In the Turkish context, this relatively unexplored topic offers novel perspectives to both academic and practical discussions on theatre aesthetics.
