From the 19th century a Building With a Bay Window in Artuklu: Ferit Koç House Restoration Proposal

Abstract

Mardin is a cosmopolitan city that embraced many civilizations in the Mesopotamian geography and carries the traces of these cultures today. It has a very complex planning due to its organically designed streets and the settlement pattern overlooking the Mesopotamian plain. Civil architecture examples found in and around Mardin are dated to the 19th and 20th centuries. Ferit Koç House is one of the important structures of the culture that has survived until today in Mardin, where the stone is processed. Artuklu District, Teker Neighborhood. The building, which is located in the historical Mardin urban site, was registered in 1979. As a result of the examinations made in the building, it was determined that it could not meet today's comfort conditions and was damaged as a result of inappropriate repairs. There is a bay window on the south side of the building, facing Mesopotamia, it is one of the two buildings in Mardin. As a result the study, the damaged parts of the house over time were determined and necessary intervention decisions were made. In the project, door and window frames, decorations and broken pieces that disappeared or changed during the process were completed by considering examples of similar periods.
