A proposal for the use of artificial intelligence in the character design process of digital game development

Abstract

This study proposes a proposal for integrating AI into character design in digital game development. The research examines traditional character design workflows and the challenges encountered in this process. Literature review and systematic analysis explored tools for text-to-image, image-to-image conversion, text-to-3D computer graphics, and image-to-3D modeling tools, as well as current AI applications in animation and motion capture technologies using texturing software. The findings demonstrate that AI tools accelerate all processes, from concept art and 3D asset creation to texturing and animation, significantly reducing prototyping and iteration times. Furthermore, it has been determined that AI-powered character creation increases diversity, inclusivity, and player-focused personalization, providing a competitive advantage for both small-scale developers and large studios. In this context, AI-based methods are intended to support sustainable and innovative character creation in the gaming industry and contribute to the development of dynamic, interactive, and immersive gaming experiences in the future.

Dijital oyun geliştirilmesinde karakter tasarım sürecinde yapay zekâ kullanımına ilişkin bir öneri

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, dijital oyun geliştirme sürecinde karakter tasarımına yapay zekâ entegrasyonunu ele alan bir öneri sunulmaktadır. Araştırmada, karakter tasarımının geleneksel iş akışları ve bu süreçte karşılaşılan zorluklar incelenmiştir. Literatür taraması ve sistematik analiz yöntemleriyle; metinden görsele, görselden görsele dönüştüren araçlar, metinden üç boyutlu bilgisayar grafiğine ve görselden üç boyutlu modelleme araçlarına yönelik yaklaşımlar, ayrıca doku oluşturma yazılımlarıyla animasyon ve hareket yakalama teknolojilerindeki güncel yapay zekâ uygulamaları araştırılmıştır. Edilen bulgular, yapay zekâ araçlarının konsept sanatından üç boyutlu varlık üretimine, doku oluşturma ve animasyon aşamalarına kadar tüm süreçleri hızlandırdığını ve prototipleme ile yineleme sürelerini önemli ölçüde kısalttığını göstermektedir. Ayrıca, yapay zekâ destekli karakter oluşturma sayesinde çeşitlilik, kapsayıcılık ve oyuncu odaklı kişiselleştirme olanaklarının arttığı, bunun da hem küçük ölçekli geliştiricilere hem de büyük stüdyolara rekabet avantajı sağladığı belirlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda, yapay zekâ tabanlı yöntemlerin oyun endüstrisinde sürdürülebilir ve yenilikçi karakter üretimini desteklemesi, gelecekte dinamik, etkileşimli ve kapsayıcı oyun deneyimlerinin geliştirilmesine katkı sağlaması hedeflenmektedir.
