Becoming Woman in Table Secrets
Abstract
This study aims to evaluate Ümit Ünal’s film called Table Secrets within the framework of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari’s concept of becoming- woman. The study is based on the assumption that the movie Table Secrets contains molecular becoming-woman categories. Therefore, the movie was selected by purposive sampling method. According to purpose of the study, first of all, Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of minor literature and from there the concept of minor cinema developed by Deleuze are included, and then the concepts of becoming and becoming-woman are examined. Then, the movie Table Secrets is analyzed under the titles of “lines of fligt and deterritorialization”, “blurring of private-public space” and “pluralization of identities”. Lines of flight, which mean the deterritorialization of all kinds of arrangements, focus especially on Neslihan in the film. The film is based on Neslihan’s oscillation between her identity as a quiet, obedient housewife and her cold-blooded identity who commits planned murders. As a result, it can be said that almost all the women in the narrative in the movie Table Secrets were initially established as a stereotypical category, but they entered a molecular or rhizomatic becoming-woman process throughout the movie.
