1970’lerin Plüralist Karakteri Bağlamında Yeni İmge Ressamları

This article discusses the new effects of New Image Painters of the pluralist environment of the 1970s in the context of postmodernism. These artists became popular with their exhibition in 1978. The study examines the reflections of these artists, being partly in transition period, on their works which cannot completely break away from the modern but also carry traces of the postmodern. Since the 1960s, there has been an increase in conceptual-based approaches to art, and with the disfavor shown to figurative painting and narration, the idea of art as a commodity that can be sold and bought has been interrupted. By the 1970s, this had changed and in the 1980s, figurative painting came back. Pluralism was the defining character of the 1970s. Many thinkers described the pluralistic structure of the 1970s as ‘postmodern’. Those approaching the figure with an abstractionist, understanding indicated the differences in the approach to the ‘new’, the ground shifts in the transition from the 70s to the 80s, as they did not see the ‘bad’ as an inferior form and moved away from the idea of ‘successfully-completed works’. The new imagers can be claimed to herald the exhaustion of the ‘master artist’ and ‘genius’ narrative.

Bu makale, 1970’li yılların plüralist ortamında var olan Yeni İmge Ressamları’nın eserlerindeki dönemine göre yeni etkileri postmodernizm bağlamında ele almaktadır. Bu sanatçılar, 1978 yılında açtıkları sergi ile gündeme gelmişlerdir. Makalede, bir nevi geçiş döneminde yer alan sanatçıların, modernden tam olarak kopamayan ama postmodernden de izler taşıyan yönlerinin eserlerine yansımaları incelenmektedir. 60’lardan itibaren sanatta kavramsal temelli yaklaşımlar artmış, figüratif resmin ve anlatının küçümsenmesiyle birlikte sanatın sergilenebilen, alınıp satılabilen meta olma özelliği de sekteye uğramıştır. 70’lerle birlikte bu durum değişmeye başlamış ve özellikle 80’lerin gelişiyle figüratif resim ve anlatı geri dönmüştür. 70’lerin karakteri plüralizmdir. Birçok yazar ve düşünür dönemin bu çoğulcu-plüralist yapısını ‘postmodern’ olarak tanımlamışlardır. Çalışmalarında figüre, gerçekçilikten çok soyutlamacı, indirgemeci bir anlayışla yaklaşan, karikatür estetiğini yadsımayan bu sanatçılar; ‘yeni’ye yaklaşımdaki farklılıkları, sanatta ‘kötü’yü aşağı bir form görmemeleri ve ‘başarıyla tamamlanmış eser’ fikrinden uzaklaşmaya başlamalarıyla 70’lerden 80’lere geçişteki zemin kaymalarını da işaret etmişlerdir. Yeni imajcıların bir yandan da ‘usta sanatçı’, ‘deha’ anlatısının tükenişini haber verdikleri söylenebilir.
