Abstract

Abstract

Cosmism, which was a techno-utopian movement as one of the main philosophies behind Russian avangardism, was influential during the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century in Soviet Union. Russian Cosmism that affected the cultural production in the 1920s was founded by the thinker and librariani Fedorov Nikolai (1829- 1903). In the 21th century, some artists/directors are revitalizing Russian Cosmism as a present and future thoughts for its potentialities of a speculative representation of the world and society among the recent dystopian technological social realities. This new approach, especially is taken by Russian artist and film director Anton Vidokle in this trilogy “Cosmos” that conveys Fedorov’s and Russian Cosmists’ writings within the discussion of the present and future social imaginations, a total view of entangled relation of human and non-humans, techno dystopias and consumption, the future of art. For the director, his understanding of Cosmism is not about the argumenting of a techno-utopia that will solve the problems of humanity and society; however, the philosophy has the potentialities in order to provide discussion and imagination for a speculative understanding of present and future cosmos of the 21th century. Thus, the moving image and creativity of film production influenced by this thought.
